Multicultural ePortfolio in pre-primary schoolsOur Erasmus+ strategic partnership consists of four educational centers (kindergartens). In our project we have focused on creating multicultural ePortfolios for groups of children in the pre-primary education institutions: Kohtla-Järve lasteaed Tuhkatriinu (Estonia), Şehit Yurdakul Alcan Ortaokulu (Turkey), Kindergarten "Zornica" (Bulgaria), Istituto Comprensivo Rugnano Incisa (Italy).
The main idea of this project is connected with our wish to help children in learning about other cultures, meeting people representing different nationalities, reflecting and memorising their learning experience. There was a great ambition in developing multicultural education from the pre-primary level, so that there will not be a gap between kindergarten and further education at schools. The international teachers' team has exchanged good practices and developed multicultural ePortfolios for groups of children, so that their intercultural learning now is visualised and it is possible to enrich and develop it in the future. The final product of the project is an educational webpage. The project consists of the following priorities of Erasmus+ programme: open and innovative practices in a digital era, promoting the acquisition of skills and competences and strengthening the profile(s) of the teaching profession. The project objectives are: • We have engaged more than 40 pre-school employees from 4 countries (teachers, teaching assistants, administration, specialists) in the project work and international activities • We have developed variants of ePortfolios in collaboration of teachers from 4 partner countries • We have produced materials created by teachers with the help of children from 4 to 7 years old • We have supported children (more than 100 during the project) in developing their understanding of their own and other cultures • We have conducted international video conferences, where the main participants were children • We have produced project blog and diary • We have produced an educational webpage, a tool, which could be used by teachers, parents and children in future The project has also contributed to: • broadening children’s horizons, trying to develop manners and new behavioral rules in a sense of tolerance • teaching ethics and appropriate usage of digital environment especially for teachers including parts, that in particular are adopted for children aged 4-7 • promoting the idea of creating a multicultural ePortfolio as a tool for teachers to other pre-primary schools The project has long-term impact on the teachers participating in the project, children, their parents, institutions and stakeholders, who will use our ePortfolios in their work in future. The teachers during the learning weeks have studied the main topics related to the project (intercultural competence, multiculturalism, digital tools, creation of ePortfolios) and they also have worked with children and communicated with their parents (workshops, intercultural days, masterclasses). Families` participation has broaden the impact of the project on children wider and also influenced the local communities. What is considered to the children, they have fully involved in local activities (masterclasses, cooking masterclasses, handmade masterclasses, performances, video conferences). They also had a possibility to meet foreign guests during international meetings. During the partnership we have arranged only 3 short-term staff training events to conduct the project and achieve project's results. Due to corona virus pandemic the last international meeting couldn't take place in Bulgaria. Nevertheless, we have received our final results and have used online tools. Special trainings and seminars during the project helped teachers to use new educational strategies and skills in further work ( usage of eTwinning, organization of live video conferences, creating portfolios, doing masterclasses). The main project goal was to reach an improved intercultural competence and greater understanding of social, ethnic, linguistic and cultural diversity of teachers and participants. The final result of the project is a creation of unified webpage, collection of materials (portfolios) during international project. Consequently, the project helped teachers in future to raise in pupils "an ability to see oneself and familiar situations and events from the perspectives of cultural ‘others’ " (Multicultural Societies, Pluricultural People and the Project of Intercultural Education (Language Policy Division, 2009). With the help of the project teachers could now reach multiperspectivity in education in the beginning of the pre-primary level and lead its tendency further to a higher one. All things considered, four institutions have received a valuable experience of participation in Erasmus+ strategic partnership and our project and its final product could pretend to be one of the steps towards a better life and education in a modern multicultural world. ec.europa.eu/programmes/erasmus-plus/projects/eplus-project- details/#project/2018-1-EE01-KA229-047102 |
